Cave Art: A Unicorn and an Animal With Its Head Off

Description: This cave art picture looks like a bull standing next to a headless animal, or an animal with its head not visible. The bull’s skin has black circles in the back, and next to it there is an all black animal with no head. It looks like some type of tan color in the background, a red color for the neck and two black horns.  Chalk or charcoal material was used to create this artistic picture. There is a curving in the rock where the cave art was drawn.

Location: Lascaux Cave in Southeastern France in the Pyrenees

Time Frame: It was created in 18,000 BP (before the present time) and the discovery was on a Thursday, September 12, 1940.

Theories: The prehistoric people who drew this ancient picture are trying to describe animals they saw on their hunt. I think early people drew this because they had seen these animals on their hunt and wanted to draw them and show others what they had seen. It was drawn by the main hunters of the tribe who were also the leaders of the tribe.
